Building Code Requirements in South Australia
Which edition of the National Construction Code applies in South Australia, its adoption timeline, and the state-specific variations that affect what you build.
In South Australia, houses, sheds and decks (Class 1 and Class 10) are built to NCC 2022 (Amendment 2). The NCC 2025 building rules are set to start from 1 May 2027. But the plumbing side of NCC 2025 is already in force, so if your work touches plumbing, check that on its own. For the carpentry and structural side, NCC 2022 is the edition you follow today.
One edition on the building side makes it easy to focus on the basics. Our NCC-for-chippies stairs pillar sets out the riser, going and rail limits, and the concrete calculations guide helps you order the right amount for slabs and footings.
