Nunavut Building Code: Stairs & Guards

Nunavut’s Building Code Act references the National Building Code — 2015 edition, in force since 1 September 2018. That’s older than every other Canadian jurisdiction covered on this site, which is otherwise on NBC 2020 or newer — confirm with the Government of Nunavut that the territory hasn’t since moved to a newer edition before you rely on any figure here.

The house stair figures on this site follow the NBC 2020 baseline — 200 mm max riser, 255 mm min run, 1950 mm headroom, 860 mm min width, 865–1070 mm handrails, 900 mm guards (1070 mm otherwise), the 600 mm trigger and the 100 mm gap — but Nunavut’s adopted edition is the older NBC 2015, so treat these as indicative only.
