Building Code Requirements in Schleswig-Holstein

Schleswig-Holstein’s building law is the Landesbauordnung Schleswig- Holstein (LBO SH) — a wholly new LBO that came into force on 5 July 2024, replacing the previous edition. If you’re working from an older reference for this Land, check it against the current text before relying on it.

Minimum room height (lichte Raumhöhe): 2.30 m, set in §47(1) LBO SH — part of the 2024 revision, down from the higher figure the previous LBO used. In a roof space, the figure reduces to 2.20 m over at least half the room’s net floor area.

Your LBO also sets boundary setbacks (Abstandsflächen), guard/parapet (Umwehrung) heights, and permit-free (verfahrensfrei) thresholds for garages and carports — none of these were independently confirmed for Schleswig-Holstein, so confirm them directly in the LBO SH text on gesetze-rechtsprechung.sh.juris.de before you build to a number.
