Building Code Requirements in Saarland

Saarland’s building law is the Landesbauordnung Saarland (LBO), currently in force.

Minimum room height (lichte Raumhöhe): 2.30 m. This is a very recent figure — Saarland ran a transitional period at 2.40 m that ended 26 April 2025, after which 2.30 m became the standing minimum. Confirm you’re working from the current text rather than an older reference that still quotes the transitional 2.40 m figure. In a roof space, the figure reduces to 2.20 m over at least half the room’s net floor area. The exact clause (§) number for these figures, and whether an ordinary small house is exempted entirely, weren’t independently confirmed — check the official text directly.

Your LBO also sets boundary setbacks (Abstandsflächen), guard/parapet (Umwehrung) heights, and permit-free (verfahrensfrei) thresholds for garages and carports — confirm all of these, along with the room-height clause number above, in the LBO Saarland text on recht.saarland.de before you build to a number.
