# Wet-Room Waterproofing in England: Part C and the Project Detail

Part C covers water spilled from sanitary fittings. Use the rule, a suitable wet-room design and the exact product instructions together.

## The requirement

**England’s Part C does cover water from sanitary fittings.** Requirement C2(d) includes harm from spilled water from fittings and fixed appliances. Approved Document C repeats that duty in paragraph 0.2(d). It is wrong to say the rules stop at the outside walls.

The document does not give a complete shower-tanking system or one membrane height for every bathroom. A project still needs a suitable wet-room detail. A product data sheet helps with that detail; it does not replace the law.

## What to check

- Confirm the substrate and how much water the floor and walls will face.
- Specify a membrane that suits the job, joints, drain, door and pipe seals.
- Check the current tiling standard and the system’s declared use. Do not assume a wall-tiling standard covers every wet-room floor.
- Follow the maker’s thickness, drying and test instructions. Keep a record before the tile covers the work.
- Check warranty terms as well as building-control rules.
